What is the difference between wheat and whole wheat?
When the whole kernel of wheat is ground and the final product is used without removing any other pieces, like the kernel etc - that is called whole wheat; which is very grainy in appearance and texture. When the kernel is ground and the bran (fibrous outer layer) and germ (reproductive part of the kernel) are removed by sifting the flour - that is called wheat or wheat flour.
Wheat or Whole Wheat: Which Is Healthier?
Since the bran is packed with all sorts of nutrient substances like vitamins E & B, antioxidants, healthy fats and more, it would seem that whole wheat is more healthy because it contains a larger amount of nutrients than wheat flour.
